About me

Prelisa Dahal

I'm a Product Designer with 4+ years of professional experience and a CS degree. I care about making things feel right, not just look right. I've worked across consumer products, enterprise systems, and AI startups. Each one taught me something different about people.

It started with people, not pixels.

I didn't plan to become a designer. I found it while doing something else entirely: organizing an experience for international volunteers coming to Nepal to work on UN Sustainable Development Goals. I was figuring out how to make strangers feel welcome in my country, how to make something unfamiliar feel like it was made for them.

That's when I learned about UX. And it clicked, because that's exactly what it is. Every product I've worked on since is the same instinct: help someone arrive somewhere new and feel like they belong there.

A few things I believe in.

I start by listening

Before I open any design tool, I want to understand the person I'm designing for. What frustrates them. What they're hoping for. What they don't say out loud.

Empathy is my compass

I care about how people feel when they use something, not just whether it functions. That feeling is the design. If someone feels confused or unseen, something went wrong.

Hard things should feel easy

If you have to work hard to figure something out, the design hasn't done its job. I keep going until the complicated parts disappear for the person using it.

I sit between tech and people

My CS background means I speak the same language as engineers. That helps me build things that are both technically honest and genuinely human.

I live expressively.

I sing. I paint. I record video journals to sharpen how I tell stories and find my words. Not for anyone else yet, just for me. I write about AI and design on Medium because I think out loud best when I'm writing. I'm originally from Nepal, and a big part of who I am is still rooted there.

I believe in living intentionally and finding beauty in ordinary things. I don't need a lot, but I want everything I have to mean something.
